Kutahya is a small province in the midst of hill country in Turkey, clustering about the walls of an impressive hilltop fortress. It is the hometown of the world famous Yagcibedir Carpets, and Kutahya tiles which you can see everywhere in the country. But the best and the cheapest are in Kutahya, where you may visit the workshops our factory outlets and see these tiles produced with designs from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are especially famous for their cobalt blue on a milky white background. The industries of Kutahya have long traditions, going back to ancient times. Kutahya is famous for its kiln products, such as tiles and pottery, which are glazed and multicoloured. Modern industries are sugar refining, tanning, nitrate processing and different products of meerschaum, which is extracted nearby. The local agricultural industry produces cereals, fruits and sugar beet. In addition stock raising is of much importance. Not far from Kutahya there are important mines extracting lignite. Kutahya is linked by rail and road with Balikesir 250 km to the west, Konya 450 km to the southeast, Eskisehir 70 km northeast and Ankara 300 km east. The old wood and stucco houses of Kutahya are picturesque. The Hungarian House (Kossouth Museum) and those on the Germian Street are the most interesting ones. Kutahya is also a thermal springs center with Harlek - ilica, Muratdagi - Gediz and Eynal - Simav, a mong the most famous. At Murat Mountain there are camping facilities including hot springs in the midst of a delightful scenery. Kutahya has been the centre of population for five thousand years and it also takes place in the oldest physical and political maps known in Anatolia. Kutahya is an important centre of agriculture with its industrial plant variations, fruit growing, stock-breeding; commercial and industrial centre with its coal, marble, silver, porcelain, ceramic, tile, thermal power station, factory of glass, sugar, fertilizer; and also historical and tourism centre with virgin nature, living folkloric values, splendid culture heritage.Kutahya is the place where both the Ottoman Empire lived for 623 years and the Turkish Republic which will live forever was founded.Kutahya which is the host of Ottoman civilization that is known for centuries coming out of Domaniç Plateu,and the Big Victory Won in Dumlupinar on August 30 is one of the gazi cities.You can sense a lot of the history by looking at the historical inheritance of the city. Kutahya's old neighbourhoods are dominated by traditional Ottoman houses made of wood and stucco, some of the best examples being found along Germiyan Caddesi.
